Lycée Class of '78 Millennium Reunion in New YorkWe're already turning 40?On August 24, a pleasant summer evening in New York, a group of former camarades gathered: Jean-Marie Atamian, Alain Benzaken, Jean-Pierre Clejan, Livia Corredor Duffee & David Duffee, Suzanne (Gleckman) Gleason, Meg Goldman, Caroline Harcourt, Natalie Hatgis, Beck Lee, Anna Migliuolo (popped in from Italy), Monique Pujol, Marc Stowe, Delfina Traxler (came in from Canada), Barbara Weindling, Annella (White) Dignes & Roy Dignes, Natalie Yates Cacciato & Richard Cacciato. Short notice in the height of summer contributed to the relaxed feeling of the evening and the comfortable sense of how little people have changed! After all, what can you hide from people who remember your gaffes from age 5 or 10 or 15? And if you are a classmate and weren't there, your ears should have been ringing. We really missed those of you wrote or called but couldn't join us—especially Nicole (Girod) Owens, Lillian Pam, Claire (Delannoy) Leconte, Andrew Penson, Kriti Siderakis, Corinne (Clejan) Kerz, Deborah Nitke, Jacqueline de la Bruyere, Stephanie Carson-Parker (who discovered through the reunion mailing that Claire (Vignal) Bureau and she have daughters in the same class in school in Paris) and others. I want to thank everyone for coming and to thank Beck especially for making the arrangements and organizing a wonderful evening at Le Pescadou, It was a charming bistro with good food and a cozy atmosphere where the management made us feel very comfortable. The evening's entertainment included old and new friends, near-forgotten expressions and stories, all brought back by the photos in those familiar yearbooks—like: isn't it amazing how much Annella's daughter looks like her at the same age? And how about the small world factoid that Barbara, who wasn't sure she'd recognize anybody, was face-to-face with her childhood look-alike Meg, and then met someone new, Marc, and discovered their families knew each other in Antwerp before the War... What impressive memories Alain, Marc, JP and Beck have! Everyone had a favorite classmate missing and hoped that person would be there at the next gathering... Thanks to our gracious host Beck, the evening was completed with a taste of cabaret by Oak Room star Michel Hermon, accompanied on accordion, performing selections from their Edith Piaf program. Speaking of pictures... Suzie (Gleckman) Gleason has done a great job compiling a photo gallery of the evening on the web. She has very graciously tentatively offered to maintain a class photo gallery. If you're interested, please contact her directly about e-mailing your class of '78 photos/requests and she can see about adding them into appropriate folders/categories. We're also waiting to see Delfina's images... |
