1966Class Notes Archives----- From June 2007 AALFNY Newsletter ----- ● Diana Mara Henry told us that she "was invited to exhibit her photographs and be a panelist at the Organization of American Historians Centennial Conference in Minneapolis in March. A mainstream publisher has asked her to write a memoir of her life in photography, but she is still holding out for a coffee table book of her work, as seen at: http://www.dianamarahenry.com. She also was invited to give the Holocaust Remembrance Day lecture at Springfield College. Her topic was the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp, as seen at: http://www.natzweiler-struthof.org. Finally, check out http://www.stampcampaign.org for the campaign to have her photographs of women leaders of the 1970s used on US postage stamps." ● Elizabeth (Loudes) McLaughlin wrote: "I am retiring from Chevron after 25 years and moving out of the San Francisco Bay Area to Sacramento, closer to children and grandchildren. I expect my focus will be different and I will have a chance to reconnect with some of my friends who graduated in 'sizzling 66'." ● Shosh (Susan Bochner) Katz wrote: "I am Shosh Katz, formerly known at the Lycee as Suzy Bochner. I studied there during 1959 - 1961, after which my mother, stepfather and I moved to Jerusalem, Israel. During the six day war I served in the army and finished in 1968 as a sergeant. I haved worked mostly in hotels, and for the last 16 years at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in the Faculty of Medicine. I was in charge for the last eight years of academic promotions at the faculty. I now coordinate other committees of the faculty such as foreign student exchange, research funds, and faculty prizes. I am married to a hotelier and we have two sons. Boaz (1982) is now entering the school of design for a degree in industrial design and our youngest, Daniel (1988) will enter the army this July. My guest room is waiting!" ● Maud Gambliel ('67) wrote to us in response to a posting in our A la Recherche des Anciens Perdus newsletter section, and told us that her brother, Hervé Gambliel has a Ph.D in Genetic Engineering and is a biochemist researcher in Boise, Idaho. His published articles can be viewed at http://scholar.google.com. ● In June 2006, the four original members of The Swingstones (Philip Engelhardt, Chris Kende, René Asper, and Pierre Seydoux) had a 40-year reunion in Geneva. My daughter Ana graduated from Sarah Lawrence, is presently studying for her D. Phil in contemporary art theory at Oxford where she received her Masters in 2003. I am delighted to be in touch with my Lycee friends and classmates. Coincidentally, I live across the street from the new Lycee!" ● "Alain Letort ('66 -- studied at Lycee from 1956 to 1960) is in the U.S. Foreign Service and currently serving at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo after living in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 1998 to 2002. They finished 5th but were very proud of winning one of the races. On hand to watch the Games in Athens with [my] sister Marie Alice Berard Leclercq ('64), [I am] now planning another career after many years at JPMorgan Chase." ● Diana Mara Henry wrote: "Georgette Temerson visited recently from her home in Corsica, and I was happy to spend lots of (but still not enough) time with her. Patricia relocated to the Cote D’Azur in 1989, remarried and had a third daughter. Her two older daughters, Janine '88 and Marina Treves '91, are both alumnae of the LFNY. Janine, an editor at UNESCO, is married and has a daughter and a son. Marina is currently living in Ajaccio, Corsica. ● Paul Oppenheim sends his greetings to his classmates and writes: "Dear friends and Anciens du Lycée: The past year was busy as always and even more so. It was just marvelous to meet some of you in 2003. With the new year I'll be moving from European affairs to the Asia-Pacific desk at the EKD headquarters in Hanover (Germany). A first business trip will take me to Borneo (over New Year's eve), Bangkok and Jakarta. China and probably Korea are also on the Agenda for 2004. As I may also get involved in biblical archeology in Israel and Jordania (not actually digging, more the administrative part of it) there is a chance to meet some of you in that part of the world. On the other hand, opportunities to meet in Paris, Geneva, London etc. will be rather sparse in the next months and maybe even years. Still, I hope we'll keep in touch and wish you all the best for 2004!" ● Chis Kende is the new Chairman of the Lycée’s Alumni Fund Board and writes : "I hope to contribute to a great year of Lycée events and cooperation with the AALFNY through better communications and joint support of our school." ----- From Winter 2002/2003 AALFNY Newsletter ----- ● Paul Oppenheim writes, regarding the ’66 Musical reunion in Paris mentioned in the last AALFNY newsletter: “I remember having attended the first rehearsals in the Seydoux apartment on Park Avenue and making historic recordings of them on my portable tape recorder!” André Cappon also wrote us requesting more information on this. Please contact Philippe Engelhardt for more information at ple@aviax.com. ● Helena Goldstein Leslie writes: "Your e-mail network recently led to my reunion with long lost classmate Paul Oppenheim at our apartment in Ferney Voltaire, outside Geneva. Paul was in Geneva on business; we happened to be having a party, and much fun was had by all. It was wonderful to see him and to find that we still had a lot in common. Thanks to your terrific network, Paul is even suggesting that we might be able to have a 40th reunion for our class. All the best and keep up the good work. You are appreciated." ● David D. Passigli writes: « When Roger Liwer ’68 (aka "RogerSanit"!) contacted me and told me about the alumni website, a rush of memories washed over me. Then when I actually visited the site, it was wonderful to read about so many of my classmates from 1963 to 1967. I am sure you all remember that it didn't matter what class we were in, we all knew each other and for the most part grew up together. So hearing of Naomi Schor's passing saddened me greatly, since even though she was an upper classperson, she always found time to say hello whenever we passed in the hallways. It was wonderful to hear of Oudi (Recanati) and Tessie (Arpels) getting together after all these years. Oudi and I went to Shearith Israel together and he was at my Bar Mitzvah (I have pictures!). Mazel Tov to you and Tessie. Steve Ditlea, Tibou Lubart, and Linda Urdang were also there.It was good to hear from Fabrizio Franzi, Francis Jacot, the "Swingstones", upper classman Pierre Sauvage and his quest, Alain Letort from Brazil, Geneviève (Cérisoles) Edis from the UK, Jean-Pierre Marchand, Danielle Schulein-Steel, Charles Pinto, and Remi Ayache, brother of my best friend at the Lycee, Robert. After leaving the Lycée, I went to Pharmacy School practiced for 10 years and then went to Law School. Now I am Director of International Sales at a large vitamin company. I am married (in Jan ‘03 it will be 30 years) and have one son (15 years old). I live and work on Long Island.» Décès/In Memoriam ● Jacques Hirschler ’67, brother of Monique Hirschler ‘66, informed us that Monique passed away of breast cancer in 1991. A series of emails have made the rounds, and we are hoping to gather in Paris this year. We cannot promise that music will be made, but we might find the courage to hum a few bars together - or hit a few bars together. That is my most recent accomplishment." ----- From July/August 2001 AALFNY Newsletter ----- ● Philip Engelhardt spent his early years on Wall Street in corporate finance, mortgage brokerage, mergers & acquisitions; he was a former White House advisor and a senior executive in Silicon Valley. He currently serves as director on several boards in finance, high technology and entertainment and is committed to public service and philanthropy. ● Alain Letort is currently U.S. Commercial Consul in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will be transferred in July 2002 to the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as Commercial Attaché. He has never been married and his extracurricular interests include traveling, fine cuisine, opera, and classical music. Je vous en remercie de lui avoir rendu hommage.» ----- From February/March 2001 AALFNY Newsletter ------ ● Christopher Kende continues to practice law in New York with Cozen & O'Connor, a major international insurance defense firm. Christopher represents several of the largest French insurers and reinsurers, the largest French Life Insurance Company and most of the major French marine insurers in major national and international disputes. Most recently Christopher has been involved in several high profile litigations involving the insurance of independent Hollywood films for a member of the AXA-UAP Group. ● Gary Marton graduated from Columbia in 1971, Boston University School of Law in 1976, and after a year in private practice, spent 21 years as a lawyer for the City of New York, 15 as a real estate litigator. Two years ago, he was appointed to a judgeship in the Civil Court.
