Service offered by: Claude Chaouloff (Class of ’75)
Name of firm: Paris Luxe Apartments
Service offered in Paris (Based in USA, New York City)
Service description: Once you've experience an apartment vacation, you'll never go back to a hotel or your Aunt’s guest bedroom… And why should you? Claude Chaouloff is in the "security" business focusing on the Parisian virtual short term vacation rental market. He keeps away all the low grade forgettable apartments from sophisticated travelers. The online vacation property scene is notorious for allowing owners to pass nominal apartments as first rate apartments through enhanced photos and sugar coated apartment/neighborhood descriptions. This situation is amplified when it comes to booking an apartment abroad. How can you book an apartment sight unseen without a referral or a guarantee? Yes, the photos may look fine (note, even IKEA furniture can look good in photos) but how accurate are they? Who manages the property? Who do you call if there is a problem and how fast do they respond? And unless you know every street in Paris, how do you know if the apartment even exists? Do you really want to wire money or submit your credit card info to an unverified Paris address? Chaouloff personally visits Paris, inspects each apartment and acts as an unbiased conduit. He only represents upscale/comfortable apartments (that he or fellow Lycee graduate, Dominque DeVillepin would feel comfortable lounging in) or luxury apartments deemed so, due to the arrondisement, renovation or a combination of the two, maintained by experienced property managers. Parisian agencies collecting apartments like civil war coins are avoided at all costs. The objective is quality and location over cost, with a strong emphasis on quality. After several visits to Paris, Chaouloff boasts an impressive roster of apartments comparable to a four star hotel and less stressful than staying with family. He's also a vacation apartment dweller himself so he walks the talk.
