1959Class Notes Archives----- From December 2007 AALFNY Newsletter ----- ● Michael Bleier wrote: “I retired from Mellon Financial Corporation as General Counsel and Executive Vice President, after 14 years as General Counsel. I was with Mellon for almost 25 years. Since my wife informed she did not have a luncheon menu, I joined Reed Smith's Pittsburgh Office as a partner in its Financial Services Group practice. With over 1500 lawyers worldwide and over 300 in London and others in a number of key locations worldwide, including Paris, I thought it would be fun to continue the practice of law. Also, with many junior lawyers, I thought I could bring valuable insights to them and help in a mentoring role. Click on link below for further details. ----- From December 2006 AALFNY Newsletter ----- Michael Bleier wrote: "I spent three years at the University of Tulsa and enjoyed living in a totally different part of the US with a very different perspective on current events. My parents moved to Tulsa because of my father's job and because I was 16 when I started at NYU, I moved with them. I had the good fortune of having as my roommate Hafiz Nawabi, who was from Kabul, Afghanistan. He now lives in the Washington, DC area and we have remained extremely close, attending each family's special events. I graduated from Georgetown Law in 1965 and studied for almost two years at Johns Hopkins' SAIS, which I left to go into my brief military service. In the interim I got engaged after four months and married in October 1966, and Phil Schreiber, a Lycee classmate, was best man at my wedding. My wife is a writer of corporate histories and we have three children and eight grandchildren. I worked at the FTC for about three and a half years and then went to the Federal Reserve Board's Legal Division in Washington, DC where I stayed for eleven years. I left as Assistant General Counsel and joined Mellon in 1982. I have been here ever since and have been General Counsel for the holding company and bank since 1992. I have been on the Senior Management Committee since 1992. As General Counsel I am responsible for the day-to-day operations of Mellon's Legal Derpartment and supervise a staff of 69 lawyers at 12 locations. During my time at Mellon I have been responsible for the legal aspects of the Corporation's expansion in both the banking and nonbanking areas, regulatory matters, dealings with the Congress and state legislatures. I was responsible for Mellon's good bank/bad bank transaction as well as the Boston Company and Dreyfus acquisitions, and in dealings with Federal regulators on Basel II. I have also authored or co-authored a number of articles that have appeared in various law school publications. For five years (1994 to 1998) I was chairman of the Lawyers Council of the Financial Services Roundtable, a national trade association representing major financial service organizations. I was also vice chairman of the American Bankers Association's Bank Counsel Committee. I am also on the board of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestar as well as the Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh. My wife and I will celebrate our 40th Anniversary this October 9, 2006." ----- From Winter 2002/2003 AALFNY Newsletter ----- Rosette Tucker Teitel (nee Winger) has had her book, "THE HANDHOLDER'S HANDBOOK, A Guide for Caregivers of People with Alzheimer's or Other Dementias" published by Rutgers University Press. It is available in all major bookstores and online. Rosette has done many book signings all over the country, and is available to speak to support groups. She writes: “Any feedback or suggestions would be welcome.” ----- From February/March 2001 AALFNY Newsletter ----- Rosette (Winger) Teitel Tucker wrote: "I took an early retirement incentive from teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) in Newtown H. S. in Elmhurst, Queens, NY, in 1995. Since then, besides doing volunteer work, I have studied to become an interior decorator, but decided not to pursue this second career. I've been a student teacher supervisor and a mentor teacher for new teachers, and I am currently coordinating a research project concerning better teaching practices to benefit ESL students. Besides helping the teachers involved in the project, I work with representatives of NYU and Brown University in conjunction with the Board of Education of the City of New York. My greatest accomplishment, however, is the forthcoming publication (July '01) of my book, THE HANDHOLDER'S HANDBOOK, A Guide for Caregivers of People with Alzheimer's or Other Dementias. My husband had vascular dementia, and I was desperate for guidance and assistance. In my support group, I said that there really should be a book out there to help us, the caregivers." |
