He "works on Bysantine, Renaissance, and early modern topics; special interests in the history of scholarhop, especially the reception of Patristic and later Greek authors in the West; 17th-century antiquarianism, episolography, paleography, and editorial practices; the history of early modern science and medicine; further interests in philosophy and literature, allegory and hermeneutics." After the Lycée I went to the boonies in upstate NY, then on to Princeton where I majored in Art History and studied a great deal of Political Science. These two interests - and art-making - have followed me my whole life. After decades in New York and New York State, I now live in Paris with my husband Berti Braun (half-Peruvian) and our son Philip-Alejo. I do what is called 'art comportemental', which means art-installations that have a subtle, hidden form of interactivity. I'm also setting up an augmented chat space for my neighborhood, which is very international, though poor :-) and in great need of new means for having its voice heard. To earn my living I teach. I would love to hear more from my class-mates and old friends! My wife, Helen, is a neonatologist and Assistant Director of Nurseries at Children's Hospital of New York (Columbia Univ.) We have 16 year old twins (Emma and Daniel) who attend Riverdale Country School. My family and I went to celebrate our son's high school graduation in Antigua for one week. I wrote Nancy, who resides in Martinique, while I was in Jordan, not really expecting it to happen. But it did! She came with her husband, Marcel, during the weekend we were there. 32 years we have been writing to each other and we finally met. It was a happy reunion that happens in dreams, but we were fortunate that it was real. We talked so much trying to fit 32 years of things not said in our letters in two days. Best wishes to all who attempt to reunite." ● Bambi Sloan wrote: "Moved to Paris in 1972, translated english & american films & TV series (including the series The Avengers!) for french TV to pay my art and graphic studies. Long story, but I became a fashion PR for top designers and opened my own business 25 years ago. Fashion PR is my main business but have branched out as an Interior designer and fashion consultant. Another long story but also owned and designed club in Notting Hill, London that we sold (very sadly) last year. I have a 19 year old son, Martin, and a 15 year old daughter, Billie Jeanne. In Memoriam ● Bea Mezei-Rhodes ('73) sent us this sad news regarding Gerard Crouzilhat, '72: "I was browsing through the different class years on the Lycée website and realized that you are always searching for alumni information. I wanted to let you know that Gerard Crouzilhat, Class of 1972 passed away several years ago. I believe he died of a heart attack following complications with diabetes. Last I heard his mother was working at Bloomingdales in the city. Ann Richards, and since then have developed two others, British Links and European Jewish Tours. I have also published a series of illustrated art guides for Harry N. Abrams, Inc. “Little-Known Museums In and Around Paris, London, Berlin and Rome,” as well as a book in French, and an electronic guide to shopping in Paris, “Best Buys to French Chic.” While I am not married, I am happily in love with a Frenchman who happens to appreciate many aspects of American life and women. Now that's luck!” ----- From July/August 2001 AALFNY Newsletter ----- ● On March 31st, the Bas' Mitzvah of Vivian Belmont Rosenfield's daughter Amelia brought together 10 friends from the classes of the 1970s including 5 members of the class of 1972: Belinda Aberbach, Patsy Baudoin, Vivian Belmont, Charles Hirschler, and Marianne Rosenberg. 1971's Ronald Grelsamer, 1973's Jean-Yves Baudoin and Philip Hirschler, 1975's Steven Belmont and 1978's Natalie Yates completed the '70s line up. ● Rachel Kaplan recently gave a lecture at Sotheby's on the Nissim de Camondo Museum, based on her recent book about museums of Paris. Our scribe adds: France and the French language, which first developed at the Lycée Français de New York, Rachel Kaplan decided to pull up stakes and move to Paris from New York City in 1993. Since then she has written four books for Harry N. Abrams, Inc. including Little-Known Museums In and Around Paris (1996), and runs a cultural tourism company called French Links which has hosted a U.S. President, a Texas Governor, and our present Senate Majority Leader.
