1960Class Notes Archives----- From June 2007 AALFNY Newsletter ----- ● Lisa (Freymann) Wassong wrote: "The three Freymann sisters [Lisa, Sarah-Jane ('59), and Roberta ('61)] celebrated their mother's 100th b'day with a wonderful brunch at my house on May 20. On November 17 my son David Wassong is marrying Abigail Klem. BIG News!!" ● "Daughter of the late French pianists Robert and Gaby Casadesus, Therese Casadesus Rawson received a Ph.D in French Language and Literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977. She has taught French, French Diction and French Vocal Repertoire at the Curtis Institute of Music for many years. She has studied voice with Wayne Conner and is active as a soloist and chorister in various ensembles and churches. She has created and performs in two small groups: one dedicated to the performance of 19th and 20th century French repertoire, The Belle Epoque Trio, and the recently founded Bach Ad Libitum Ensemble, devoted to the works of that composer. She is also President of the Fontainebleau Associations of which Philippe Entremont is President today and which organizes a summer music program in France." Un de ces jours, je visiterai votre site." ----- From February 2006 AALFNY Newsletter ----- A new book by Neil Schachter ('60) --“The Good Doctor’s Guide to Colds and Flu”-- was recently published by Harper Collins (2005). [See link to Neil's website, below, for more information on the book, and on Neil.] Maria (Halpern) Rhode ('60) wrote: "My family moved to California when I had completed the 3eme, and I graduated from UCLA with a major in Zoology. Later I came to London to train as a psychoanalytic child psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic. My husband, Eric, is also a child psychotherapist, as well as the author of books on cultural aspects of psychoanalysis and on the cinema; we have four grown-up children. Currently I am Professor of Child Psychotherapy in the Department of Children and Families at the Tavistock, where I work mainly with children with autism. I should be glad to hear from any classmates who might find themselves in London." ----- From June 2005 AALFNY Newsletter ----- "Dr. and Mrs. Neil Schachter ('60) have the pleasure of announcing the marriage of their eldest daughter Karen to Johnathan Schidlkraut." ----- From Winter 2003/2004 AALFNY Newsletter ----- William Rodarmor works as a freelance editor in Berkeley, California, but says he has been busiest as a French translator recently. He has just translated the first book of the popular "Mary Lester" series, and William hopes it's successful in English: there are 20 more books in the series! He also translated a wonderful children's book, The Old Man Mad About Drawing, by author-illustrator François Place, due out from David R. Godine in October. It recounts life in the 19th century with the famed Japanese printmaker, Hokusai. William says of the author, “Place is that rare beast, a man equally talented as a writer and illustrator.” William had previously translated Place’s novel, The Last Giants. He also has one editing project for Peachpit Press, a Berkeley computer book publisher. Dr. Neil Schachter was on "ABC News with Peter Jennings" on October 29 discussing the respiratory problems Southern Californians might suffer as a result of the wildfires there. ----- From Winter 2002/2003 AALFNY Newsletter ----- Marie Christine (Comte) Schurmann is currently living in the U.S. though it is only on a temporary basis as her husband will finish his stint at the World Bank in a few months. They plan to return to Italy where they have a house. William Rodarmor is a journalist and editor in Berkeley, California. He's also a French literary translator. The University of Chicago Press published his 12th book translation this spring: "The Fate of the Mammoth," by historian of science Claudine Cohen. He is divorced, has a 19-year-old son named Casey, and regularly visits New York to see his old Columbia Law School girlfriend. He has stayed in touch with a number of Lycee friends, including Neil Schachter '60, Lisa (Freymann) Wassong '60, Liliane Frizzole '60, Joanna (Alexander) Grossman '62, and Beatrice (Wellner) Sikon '62. ----- From November/December 2001 AALFNY Newsletter ----- William Rodarmor works as a freelance writer and editor in Berkeley, California. The University of Chicago Press will publish his latest book translation, The Fate of the Mammoth, by French historian of science Claudine Cohen, in April.
